Like all of us, I reflect what environment I grew up in to some extent. Yes, in many ways I have broken away from that and my past is not the only thing that defines me. But my past does run deep, and its influence cannot be ignored.

Only recently have a lot of my formative years’ memories become less clouded and easier for me to see with reasonable clarity. I think you need to know who I am, at the gut level, if there is any hope of fostering trust at all between us.
