The Move

Now my parents had a dream to move out into the country. I think even back then, country life was seen as more healthy and less dangerous for children then the city. Burlington, Vermont was not what anyone could really call a "Big City", but Charlotte, 15 miles to the south, was a little quieter than even Burlington was. The exact motivation was not something I really understood, and in fact, I don't think it much mattered. Their reasons were their own, and my understanding was never the point.

There was talk and questions were asked like: "How would you like to move out into the Country?" The point was to motivate me to jump on board their plan, and my input was never really something I got the impression they really considered in making the decision. Pretty much all you would have had to ask is: "How would you like to move?" and the answer, no matter what else was said would have been "No." I was happy where I was and the idea of leaving all my friends behind to make new ones, well, that scared me more than just a little.
